A vulnerability was found in SlideShowPro Director 1.1/1.2/1.3/1.3.8. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown function of the file p.php. The manipulation of the argument a with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in p.php in SlideShowPro Director 1.1 through 1.3.8 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via directory traversal sequences in the a parameter.
The weakness was presented 08/06/2009 as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2009-2931 since 08/21/2009. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
