A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in phpBB 2.0.23 (Forum Software). This issue affects an unknown function of the file modcp.php. The manipulation of the argument side with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-200. phpBB 2.0.23 includes the session ID in a request to modcp.php when the moderator or administrator closes a thread, which allows remote attackers to hijack the session via a post in the thread containing a URL to a remotely hosted image, which might include the session ID in the Referer header.
The bug was discovered 03/13/2008. The weakness was presented 03/18/2008 as not defined posting (Bugtraq). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2008-7143 since 09/01/2009. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation.
