The Servlet Engine/Web Container component in IBM WebSphere Application Server (WAS) 6.0.2 before 6.0.2.37 does not properly implement security constraints on the (1) doGet and (2) doTrace methods, which allows remote attackers to bypass intended access restrictions and obtain sensitive information via a crafted HTTP HEAD request to a Web Application.
The weakness was released 09/08/2009 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at www-01.ibm.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2009-3106. The exploitation is known to be easy. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1068 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
