Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Opera Web Browser (Web Browser). This vulnerability affects an unknown part of the component User Interface. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-20. The product receives input or data, but it does
not validate or incorrectly validates that the input has the
properties that are required to process the data safely and
correctly. As an impact it is known to affect integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Opera before 10.01 on Windows does not prevent use of Web fonts in rendering the product s own user interface, which allows remote attackers to spoof the address field via a crafted web site.
The weakness was disclosed 10/28/2009 by Chris Weber (Inferno) with Casaba Security (Website). The advisory is available at vupen.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2009-3832 since 10/30/2009. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 42291 (Opera < 10.01 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 116660 (Opera Web Browser Prior to 10.01 Multiple Security Vulnerabilities).
Upgrading to version 9.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (54022), Tenable (42291), SecurityFocus (BID 36850†), OSVDB (59359†) and Secunia (SA37182†). The entries VDB-50661 and VDB-50124 are pretty similar. Once again VulDB remains the best source for vulnerability data.
