CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Sun JRE and JDK (Programming Language Software). Affected is an unknown code block. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a code injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

The launch method in the Deployment Toolkit plugin in Java Runtime Environment (JRE) in Sun Java SE in JDK and JRE 6 before Update 17 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary commands via a crafted web page, aka Bug Id 6869752.

The weakness was released 11/05/2009 by Peter Vreugdenhil (regenrecht) with iDEFENSE (Website). The advisory is available at vupen.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2009-3865. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1059 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

A public exploit has been developed in Java. The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 42834 (GLSA-200911-02 : Sun JDK/JRE: Multiple vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Gentoo Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 116678 (Sun Java JDK and JRE Multiple Vulnerabilities).

Upgrading to version 1.6.0 eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 8404.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (42834), SecurityFocus (BID 36881†), Secunia (SA37386†), SecurityTracker (ID 1023244†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-23993†).
