A vulnerability was found in GNU Samba 3.0/3.0.0/3.0.1 (File Transfer Software). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown function of the component smbmnt. The mksmbpasswd shell script (mksmbpasswd.sh) in Samba 3.0.0 and 3.0.1, when creating an account but marking it as disabled, may overwrite the user password with an uninitialized buffer, which could enable the account with a more easily guessable password.
The bug was discovered 02/09/2004. The weakness was released 02/11/2004 by Michal Medvecky as not defined posting (Bugtraq). It is possible to read the advisory at securityfocus.com.
