A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Teamst TestLink up to 1.8.4. This issue affects some unknown processing in the library lib/general/staticPage.php of the file login.php. The manipulation of the argument summary with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-79. The product does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes user-controllable input before it is placed in output that is used as a web page that is served to other users. Impacted is integrity. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in TestLink before 1.8.5 allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via (1) the req parameter to login.php, and allow remote authenticated users to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via (2) the key parameter to lib/general/staticPage.php, (3) the tableName parameter to lib/attachments/attachmentupload.php, or the (4) startDate, (5) endDate, or (6) logLevel parameter to lib/events/eventviewer.php; (7) the search_notes_string parameter to lib/results/resultsMoreBuilds_buildReport.php; or the (8) expected_results, (9) name, (10) steps, or (11) summary parameter in a find action to lib/testcases/searchData.php, related to lib/functions/database.class.php.
The weakness was presented 12/09/2009 by CORE Security with CORE Security Technologies (Website). The advisory is shared at teamst.org. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2009-4237 since 12/09/2009. The attack may be initiated remotely. Required for exploitation is a simple authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
A public exploit has been developed by Core Security and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is available at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. By approaching the search of inurl:login.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 43101 (TestLink login.php req Parameter XSS), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses : XSS.
Upgrading to version 1.7.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
