A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Moodle up to 1.9.6 (Learning Management Software). Affected by this issue is some unknown functionality in the library mnet/lib.php. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a access control vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-264. Impacted is confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
mnet/lib.php in Moodle 1.8 before 1.8.11 and 1.9 before 1.9.7, when MNET services are enabled, does not properly check permissions, which allows remote authenticated servers to execute arbitrary MNET functions.
The weakness was presented 12/15/2009 (Website). The advisory is available at redhat.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2009-4301 since 12/11/2009. The attack may be launched remotely. A simple authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details are known, but there is no available exploit. It is assigned to the family Debian Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 165156 (SUSE Update for Multiple Packages (SUSE-SR:2010:004)).
Upgrading to version 1.9.3 eliminates this vulnerability.
