A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, has been found in Mozilla Firefox (Web Browser). This issue affects the function GeckoActiveXObject of the component Registry. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a information disclosure vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-200. The product exposes sensitive information to an actor that is not explicitly authorized to have access to that information. Impacted is confidentiality. The summary by CVE is:
The GeckoActiveXObject function in Mozilla Firefox before 3.0.16 and 3.5.x before 3.5.6, and SeaMonkey before 2.0.1, generates different exception messages depending on whether the referenced COM object is listed in the registry, which allows remote attackers to obtain potentially sensitive information about installed software by making multiple calls that specify the ProgID values of different COM objects.
The weakness was published 12/17/2009 by Gregory Fleischer (Website). The advisory is shared at vupen.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2009-3987 since 11/19/2009.
