Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in PHP-Calendar 1.1 (Calendar Software). This affects some unknown functionality of the file update08.php. The manipulation of the argument configfile with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:
Multiple absolute path traversal vulnerabilities in PHP-Calendar 1.1 allow remote attackers to include and execute arbitrary local files via a full pathname in the configfile parameter to (1) update08.php or (2) update10.php. NOTE: in some environments, this can be leveraged for remote file inclusion by using a UNC share pathname or an ftp, ftps, or ssh2.sftp URL.
The weakness was shared 12/22/2009 as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2009-3702 since 10/15/2009. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details and a public exploit are known.
