Details
A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Intel E1000. Affected by this vulnerability is the function ipv6_hop_jumbo of the file net/ipv6/exthdrs.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a input validation vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-476. A NULL pointer dereference occurs when the application dereferences a pointer that it expects to be valid, but is NULL, typically causing a crash or exit. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:
The ipv6_hop_jumbo function in net/ipv6/exthdrs.c in the Linux kernel before 2.6.32.4, when network namespaces are enabled, allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (NULL pointer dereference) via an invalid IPv6 jumbogram, a related issue to CVE-2007-4567.
The weakness was shared 01/20/2010 with Codenomicon as Bug 555217 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). It is possible to read the advisory at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2010-0006 since 12/14/2009. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication.
