main.C in maildrop 2.3.0 and earlier, when run by root with the -d option, uses the gid of root for execution of the .mailfilter file in a user's home directory, which allows local users to gain privileges via a crafted file.
The weakness was published 02/04/2010 as Bug 559681 as confirmed bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.redhat.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2010-0301 since 01/12/2010. The attack needs to be approached locally. No form of authentication is required for exploitation.
