Details
A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Microsoft Windows (Operating System) (affected version not known). This affects some unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a race condition vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-362. The product contains a code sequence that can run concurrently with other code, and the code sequence requires temporary, exclusive access to a shared resource, but a timing window exists in which the shared resource can be modified by another code sequence that is operating concurrently. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:
Multiple race conditions in the SMB implementation in the Server service in Microsoft Windows Vista Gold, SP1, and SP2, Windows Server 2008 Gold, SP2, and R2, and Windows 7 allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (system hang) via a crafted (1) SMBv1 or (2) SMBv2 Negotiate packet, aka "SMB Memory Corruption Vulnerability."
The weakness was published 02/10/2010 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2010-0021 since 12/14/2009. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The pricing for an exploit might be around USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 01/21/2025).
