Details
A vulnerability was found in AnalogX SimpleServer:WWW up to 1.05. It has been declared as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown part. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Directory traversal vulnerability in SimpleServer:WWW 1.13 and earlier allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary programs via encoded ../ ("%2E%2E%2F%") sequences in a request to the cgi-bin/ directory, a different vulnerability than CVE-2000-0664.
The weakness was presented 02/12/2010 with SecuriTeam (Website). The advisory is available at seclists.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2001-1586 since 02/11/2010. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation.
