The dhost web service in Novell eDirectory 8.8.5 uses a predictable session cookie, which makes it easier for remote attackers to hijack sessions via a modified cookie.
The weakness was disclosed 11/13/2009 by Metasploit with MetaSploit (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at xforce.iss.net. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2009-4655. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1600 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
A public exploit has been developed in Ruby. The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
