A vulnerability was found in Rockettheme Com Rokdownloads up to 0.90. It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown function of the file index.php. The manipulation of the argument controller with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in the RokDownloads (com_rokdownloads) component before 1.0.1 for Joomla! allows remote attackers to include and execute arbitrary local files via a .. (dot dot) in the controller parameter to index.php.
The weakness was disclosed 03/16/2010 by AtT4CKxT3rR0r1ST (Website). The advisory is shared at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2010-1056. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details and also a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1006 for this issue.
A public exploit has been developed by AtT4CKxT3rR0r1ST and been published before and not just after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 1 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. By approaching the search of inurl:index.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 43636 (Joomla! / Mambo Component Multiple Parameter Local File Include Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CGI abuses.
Upgrading to version 0.91 eliminates this vulnerability.
