Apple Mac OS X up to 10.6.2 incomplete blacklist

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in Apple Mac OS X up to 10.6.2 (Operating System). It has been declared as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown code. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a remote code execution vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-184. The product implements a protection mechanism that relies on a list of inputs (or properties of inputs) that are not allowed by policy or otherwise require other action to neutralize before additional processing takes place, but the list is incomplete, leading to resultant weaknesses. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Incomplete blacklist vulnerability in CoreTypes in Apple Mac OS X before 10.6.3 makes it easier for user-assisted remote attackers to execute arbitrary JavaScript via a web page that offers a download with a Content-Type value that is not on the list of possibly unsafe content types for Safari, as demonstrated by the values for the (1) .ibplugin and (2) .url extensions.

The weakness was released 03/30/2010 by Clint Ruoho with Laconic Security as HT4077 as confirmed advisory (Website). The advisory is shared at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2010-0063. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1562.006 for this issue.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 45372 (Mac OS X 10.6.x < 10.6.3 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family MacOS X Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 117331 (Apple Mac OS X Security Update 2010-002 Not Installed (APPLE-SA-2010-03-29-1)).

Upgrading to version 10.6.0 eliminates this vulnerability.
