Mail in Apple Mac OS X before 10.6.3 does not properly enforce the key usage extension during processing of a keychain that specifies multiple certificates for an e-mail recipient, which might make it easier for remote attackers to obtain sensitive information via a brute-force attack on a weakly encrypted e-mail message.
The weakness was released 03/30/2010 by Paul as HT4077 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2010-0525 since 02/03/2010. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1600 according to MITRE ATT&CK.
