A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Stafford.uklinux libESMTP. This affects an unknown code block. libESMTP, probably 1.0.4 and earlier, does not properly handle a '\0' character in a domain name in the subject's Common Name (CN) field of an X.509 certificate, which allows man-in-the-middle attackers to spoof arbitrary SSL servers via a crafted certificate issued by a legitimate Certification Authority, a related issue to CVE-2009-2408.
The weakness was released 03/31/2010 by Kees Cook (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at vupen.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2010-1192. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
