A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, has been found in Mozilla Bugzilla up to 4.2.1 (Bug Tracking Software). Affected by this issue is an unknown code block of the file buglist.cgi of the component JavaScript Template. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a access control vulnerability. template/en/default/list/list.js.tmpl in Bugzilla 2.x and 3.x before 3.6.9, 3.7.x and 4.0.x before 4.0.6, and 4.1.x and 4.2.x before 4.2.1 does not properly handle multiple logins, which allows remote attackers to conduct cross-site scripting (XSS) attacks and obtain sensitive bug information via a crafted web page.
The weakness was released 04/13/2012 by Frédéric Buclin as Bug 745397 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.mozilla.org. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2012-0466 since 01/09/2012. The exploitation is known to be difficult. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1068.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. As 0-day the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 864215 , which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
Upgrading to version 3.6.9, 4.0.6 or 4.2.1 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 5 days after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
