CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability has been found in Mozilla Firefox up to 11.0 (Web Browser) and classified as critical. Affected by this vulnerability is the function gfxImageSurface. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

Heap-based buffer overflow in the nsSVGFEDiffuseLightingElement::LightPixel function in Mozilla Firefox 4.x through 11.0, Firefox ESR 10.x before 10.0.4, Thunderbird 5.0 through 11.0, Thunderbird ESR 10.x before 10.0.4, and SeaMonkey before 2.9 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (invalid gfxImageSurface free operation) or possibly execute arbitrary code by leveraging the use of "different number systems."

The weakness was published 04/24/2012 by Atte Kettunen (team509) as MFSA 2012-23 as confirmed knowledge base article (Website). The advisory is shared at mozilla.org. The public release has been coordinated with Mozilla. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2012-0470 since 01/09/2012. The exploitation appears to be difficult. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details and also a private exploit are known.

A private exploit has been developed by Atte Kettunen. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 58850 (CentOS 5 / 6 : firefox (CESA-2012:0515)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family CentOS Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 120189 (Red Hat Update for Xulrunner Firefox (RHSA-2012:0515)).

Upgrading to version 12.0 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at Tenable (58850), SecurityFocus (BID 53225†), OSVDB (81516†), Secunia (SA48932†) and SecurityTracker (ID 1026971†). Similar entries are available at VDB-5005, VDB-5301, VDB-5302 and VDB-5303. Several companies clearly confirm that VulDB is the primary source for best vulnerability data.
