A vulnerability was found in Mozilla Firefox up to 11.0 (Web Browser). It has been classified as critical. This affects the function js::array_shift of the file jsval.h. The browser engine in Mozilla Firefox 4.x through 11.0, Thunderbird 5.0 through 11.0, and SeaMonkey before 2.9 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (assertion failure and memory corruption) or possibly execute arbitrary code via vectors related to jsval.h and the js::array_shift function.

The weakness was disclosed 04/24/2012 by Christian Holler with Mozilla as MFSA 2012-20 as not defined knowledge base article (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at mozilla.org. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with Mozilla. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2012-0468 since 01/09/2012. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details and a private exploit are known.

A private exploit has been developed by Mozilla. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 831630 , which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment.
