A vulnerability classified as problematic has been found in Apache axis2 1.4.1/1.5.1. This affects an unknown functionality of the component Administration Console. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in axis2-admin/axis2-admin/engagingglobally in the administration console in Apache Axis2/Java 1.4.1, 1.5.1, and possibly other versions, as used in SAP Business Objects 12, 3com IMC, and possibly other products, allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the modules parameter. NOTE: some of these details are obtained from third party information.
The bug was discovered 01/30/2010. The weakness was disclosed 05/21/2010 by Richard Brain (Website). The advisory is shared at kb.juniper.net. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2010-2103. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details and a public exploit are known. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
A public exploit has been developed by Richard Brain and been published even before and not after the advisory. The exploit is shared for download at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 112 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $5k-$25k. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 12370 (Apache Axis2/Java "modules" Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability).
