A vulnerability was found in Adobe Shockwave Player up to 11.6.5.634 (Multimedia Player Software). It has been rated as critical. Adobe Shockwave Player before 11.6.5.635 allows attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via unspecified vectors, a different vulnerability than CVE-2012-2029, CVE-2012-2030, CVE-2012-2031, and CVE-2012-2032.
The weakness was disclosed 05/08/2012 by Honggang Ren with Fortinet's FortiGuard Labs as APSB12-13 as confirmed knowledge base article (Website). The advisory is shared for download at adobe.com. The public release has been coordinated in cooperation with the vendor. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2012-2033 since 04/02/2012. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 59047 (Shockwave Player <= 11.6.4.634 Multiple Memory Corruption Vulnerabilities (APSB12-13)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 120213 (Adobe Shockwave Player Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSB12-13)).
Upgrading to version 11.6.5.635 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 12881.
