The snapshot merging functionality in Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Manager (aka RHEV-M) before 2.2 does not properly pass the postzero parameter during operations on deleted volumes, which allows guest OS users to obtain sensitive information by examining the disk blocks associated with a deleted virtual machine.
The weakness was disclosed 06/24/2010 with Red Hat (Website). The advisory is shared at rhn.redhat.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2010-2224 since 06/09/2010. The exploitation appears to be easy. An attack has to be approached locally. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
