Mako before 0.3.4 relies on the cgi.escape function in the Python standard library for cross-site scripting (XSS) protection, which makes it easier for remote attackers to conduct XSS attacks via vectors involving single-quote characters and a JavaScript onLoad event handler for a BODY element.
The weakness was released 07/02/2010 (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at makotemplates.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2010-2480. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction.
