The jail_attach system call in FreeBSD 5.1 and 5.2 changes the directory of a calling process even if the process doesn t have permission to change directory, which allows local users to gain read/write privileges to files and directories within another jail.

The bug was discovered 02/27/2004. The weakness was published 02/25/2004 by JAS Group with JAS Group (Website). The advisory is shared for download at lists.freebsd.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2004-0126. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication.
