A vulnerability was found in OpenLDAP 2.4.22 (Directory Service Software). It has been classified as problematic. This affects the function IA5StringNormalize of the file schema_init.c. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a access control vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-264. This is going to have an impact on availability. The summary by CVE is:
OpenLDAP 2.4.22 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (crash) via a modrdn call with a zero-length RDN destination string, which is not properly handled by the smr_normalize function and triggers a NULL pointer dereference in the IA5StringNormalize function in schema_init.c, as demonstrated using the Codenomicon LDAPv3 test suite.
The weakness was released 07/28/2010 (Website). The advisory is shared at vupen.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2010-0212. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available.
