A vulnerability, which was classified as problematic, was found in Adjam rekonq up to 0.5.0. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in rekonq 0.5 and earlier allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via (1) a URL associated with a nonexistent domain name, related to webpage.cpp, aka a "universal XSS" issue; (2) unspecified vectors related to webview.cpp; and the about: views for (3) favorites, (4) bookmarks, (5) closed tabs, and (6) history.
The weakness was disclosed 07/18/2010 by Tim Brown with Brown (Website). The advisory is shared at bugs.kde.org. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2010-2536 since 06/30/2010. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 49091 (Fedora 13 : rekonq-0.5.0-2.fc13 (2010-12271)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Fedora Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 118755 (Fedora Update for rekonq (FEDORA-2010-12271)).
There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.
