A vulnerability was found in Zabbix (Network Management Software) and classified as problematic. This issue affects the function formatQuery. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-79. The product does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes user-controllable input before it is placed in output that is used as a web page that is served to other users. Impacted is integrity. Multiple cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerabilities in the formatQuery function in frontends/php/include/classes/class.curl.php in Zabbix before 1.8.3rc1 allow remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the (1) filter_set, (2) show_details, (3) filter_rst, or (4) txt_select parameters to the triggers page (tr_status.php). NOTE: some of these details are obtained from third party information.
The weakness was disclosed 08/05/2010 (Website). The advisory is shared at vupen.com. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2010-2790. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1059.007 for this issue.
The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 48426 (Fedora 13 : zabbix-1.8.2-2.fc13 (2010-12752)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Fedora Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 12393 (ZABBIX formatQuery() Cross-Site Scripting Vulnerability).
Upgrading to version 1.1 eliminates this vulnerability.
