A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6/7/8 (Web Browser) and classified as critical. Affected by this issue is an unknown code. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a race condition vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-362. Race condition in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, 7, and 8 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via vectors related to an object in memory, aka "Race Condition Memory Corruption Vulnerability."
The issue has been introduced in 03/05/2008. The weakness was presented 08/11/2010 as MS10-053 as confirmed bulletin (Technet). The advisory is available at technet.microsoft.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2010-2558. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 889 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $25k-$100k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 48290 , which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. Applying the patch MS10-053 is able to eliminate this problem. The bugfix is ready for download at technet.microsoft.com.
