A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Apache OpenOffice 3.3/3.4 (Office Suite Software). Affected is the function WPXContentListener::_closeTableRow of the component WPXContentListener.cpp. The manipulation as part of a File leads to a numeric error vulnerability. The WPXContentListener::_closeTableRow function in WPXContentListener.cpp in libwpd 0.8.8, as used by OpenOffice.org (OOo) before 3.4, allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code via a crafted Wordperfect .WPD document that causes a negative array index to be used. NOTE: some sources report this issue as an integer overflow.
The weakness was released 05/16/2012 by Kestutis Gudinavicius with SEC Consult Unternehmensberatung GmbH as CVE-2012-2149 as confirmed knowledge base article (Website). The advisory is shared for download at openoffice.org. The public release was coordinated with the vendor. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-2149 since 04/04/2012. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details and a public exploit are known.

Upgrading to version 3.4 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published even before and not after the disclosure of the vulnerability.
