Heap-based buffer overflow in the Mac_Read_POST_Resource function in base/ftobjs.c in FreeType before 2.4.0 allows remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted length value in a POST fragment header in a font file.

The weakness was presented 08/19/2010 by Robert Swiecki (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at lists.nongnu.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2010-2519. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details of the vulnerability are known, but there is no available exploit.

Upgrading to version 2.1.7 eliminates this vulnerability.
