A vulnerability has been found in SoftX FTP Client 3.3 and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown code. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
Directory traversal vulnerability in SoftX FTP Client 3.3 and possibly earlier allows remote FTP servers to write arbitrary files via "..\" (dot dot backslash) sequences in a filename.
The weakness was released 08/20/2010 as not defined posting (Bugtraq). The advisory is shared for download at securityfocus.com. This vulnerability was named CVE-2010-3096 since 08/20/2010. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. There are neither technical details nor an exploit publicly available.
