A vulnerability was found in Microsoft Outlook Web Access up to 2007 (Groupware Software) and classified as critical. This issue affects an unknown part of the component Outlook Web Access. Cross-site request forgery (CSRF) vulnerability in Microsoft Outlook Web Access (owa/ev.owa) 2007 through SP2 allows remote attackers to hijack the authentication of e-mail users for requests that perform Outlook requests, as demonstrated by setting the auto-forward rule.
The weakness was disclosed 07/08/2010 by Rosario Valotta (Website). The advisory is shared at xforce.iss.net. The identification of this vulnerability is CVE-2010-3213. The attack may be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is needed for a successful exploitation. It demands that the victim is doing some kind of user interaction. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available.
A public exploit has been developed by Rosario Valotta and been published immediately after the advisory. The exploit is available at exploit-db.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 49274 (MS KB2401593: Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA) CSRF), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 74246 (Microsoft Exchange Server Outlook Web Access Cross-Site Request Forgery Vulnerability (KB2401593)).
A possible mitigation has been published immediately after the disclosure of the vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 10507.
