A vulnerability has been found in Mozilla Firefox up to 4.0 (Web Browser) and classified as problematic. This vulnerability affects the function js_InitRandom of the component Random Number Generator. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cryptographic issue vulnerability. The js_InitRandom function in the JavaScript implementation in Mozilla Firefox 3.5.10 through 3.5.11, 3.6.4 through 3.6.8, and 4.0 Beta1 uses a context pointer in conjunction with its successor pointer for seeding of a random number generator, which makes it easier for remote attackers to guess the seed value via a brute-force attack, a different vulnerability than CVE-2010-3171.
The weakness was shared 09/15/2010 as Bug 577512 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is shared for download at bugzilla.mozilla.org. This vulnerability was named CVE-2010-3399. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. There are known technical details, but no exploit is available. The current price for an exploit might be approx. USD $0-$5k (estimation calculated on 01/21/2025). The MITRE ATT&CK project declares the attack technique as T1600.
