Google Chrome prior 5.0.394.0 memory corruption

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as very critical has been found in Google Chrome (Web Browser). Affected is an unknown code block. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Google Chrome before 6.0.472.59 on Mac OS X does not properly implement file dialogs, which allows attackers to cause a denial of service (memory corruption) or possibly have unspecified other impact via unknown vectors. NOTE: this issue exists because of an incorrect fix for CVE-2010-3112 on Mac OS X.

The weakness was presented 09/16/2010 by Sergey Glazunov (kuzzcc) with Microsoft Vulnerability Research (Website). The advisory is available at googlechromereleases.blogspot.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2010-3414 since 09/16/2010. The exploitability is told to be easy. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. The structure of the vulnerability defines a possible price range of USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 09/25/2021). It is expected to see the exploit prices for this product increasing in the near future.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 49237 (Google Chrome < 6.0.472.59 Multiple Vulnerabilities), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 118493 (Google Chrome Prior to 6.0.472.59 Multiple Security Vulnerabilities).
