A vulnerability has been found in Adobe Acrobat Reader (Document Reader Software) and classified as critical. This vulnerability affects an unknown function. Adobe Reader and Acrobat 9.x before 9.4, and 8.x before 8.2.5 on Windows and Mac OS X, allow attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via unspecified vectors, a different vulnerability than CVE-2010-3619, CVE-2010-3621, CVE-2010-3622, CVE-2010-3628, CVE-2010-3632, and CVE-2010-3658.

The weakness was disclosed 10/06/2010 by Tavis Ormandy with Google Security Team (Website). The advisory is available at us-cert.gov. This vulnerability was named CVE-2010-2890 since 07/27/2010. The attack can be initiated remotely. No form of authentication is required for a successful exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 49172 (Adobe Acrobat < 9.4 / 8.2.5 Multiple Vulnerabilities (APSB10-21)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Windows and running in the context l. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 165612 (SUSE Enterprise Linux Security Update acroread (SUSE-SA:2010:048)).
