Epiphany 2.28 and 2.29, when WebKit and LibSoup are used, unconditionally displays a closed-lock icon for any URL beginning with the https: substring, without any warning to the user, which allows man-in-the-middle attackers to spoof arbitrary https web sites via a crafted X.509 server certificate.
The weakness was published 10/14/2010 as Bug 600663 as not defined bug report (Bugzilla). The advisory is available at bugzilla.gnome.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2010-3312 since 09/13/2010. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
