Linux-HA OCF Resource Agents 1.0.3 LD_LIBRARY_PATH privileges management

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as critical was found in Linux-HA OCF Resource Agents 1.0.3. Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown functionality in the library LD_LIBRARY_PATH. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a privileges management vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-269. The product does not properly assign, modify, track, or check privileges for an actor, creating an unintended sphere of control for that actor. As an impact it is known to affect confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The summary by CVE is:

The (1) SAPDatabase and (2) SAPInstance scripts in OCF Resource Agents (aka resource-agents or cluster-agents) 1.0.3 in Linux-HA place a zero-length directory name in the LD_LIBRARY_PATH, which allows local users to gain privileges via a Trojan horse shared library in the current working directory.

The weakness was shared 10/20/2010 by Raphael Geissert (Website). The advisory is shared at bugs.debian.org. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2010-3389. An attack has to be approached locally. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are known, but no exploit is available. The price for an exploit might be around USD $5k-$25k at the moment (estimation calculated on 01/21/2025). MITRE ATT&CK project uses the attack technique T1068 for this issue.

The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 56593 (GLSA-201110-18 : rgmanager: Privilege escalation), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Gentoo Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 119663 (CentOS Security Update for rgmanager (CESA-2011:1000)).

There is no information about possible countermeasures known. It may be suggested to replace the affected object with an alternative product.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (64414), Tenable (56593), SecurityFocus (BID 44359†) and Vulnerability Center (SBV-32530†). If you want to get the best quality for vulnerability data then you always have to consider VulDB.
