A vulnerability was found in Adobe Shockwave Player up to 8.0.195 (Multimedia Player Software). It has been classified as very critical. Affected is an unknown code in the library dirapi.dll. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. The Director module (dirapi.dll) in Adobe Shockwave Player before 11.5.9.615 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption) via a Director movie with a crafted rcsL chunk containing a field whose value is used as a pointer offset, as exploited in the wild in October 2010. NOTE: some of these details are obtained from third party information.
The weakness was presented 10/21/2010 by Abysssec as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared for download at kb.cert.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2010-3653. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details and a public exploit are known.
