IBM Tivoli Directory Server prior 6.0 memory corruption

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability classified as problematic was found in IBM Tivoli Directory Server (Directory Service Software). Affected by this vulnerability is an unknown function. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-119. The product performs operations on a memory buffer, but it can read from or write to a memory location that is outside of the intended boundary of the buffer. As an impact it is known to affect availability. The summary by CVE is:

IBM Tivoli Directory Server (TDS) 6.0.0.x before 6.0.0.8-TIV-ITDS-IF0007 does not properly handle invalid buffer references in LDAP BER requests, which might allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (daemon crash) via vectors involving a buffer that has a memory address near the maximum possible address.

The weakness was published 11/09/2010 (Website). The advisory is shared at ibm.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2010-4216 since 11/09/2010. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Neither technical details nor an exploit are publicly available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept.
