A vulnerability classified as critical has been found in Apple Mac OS X (Operating System). This affects some unknown processing of the component QuickLook. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a memory corruption vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-119. QuickLook in Apple Mac OS X 10.6.x before 10.6.5 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (memory corruption and application crash) via a crafted Excel file.

The weakness was disclosed 11/16/2010 as HT4435 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is uniquely identified as CVE-2010-3786. It is possible to initiate the attack remotely. No form of authentication is needed for exploitation. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not publicly available.
