Buffer overflow in QuickTime in Apple Mac OS X 10.6.x before 10.6.5 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service (application crash) via a crafted MPEG movie file.
The weakness was released 11/16/2010 with TippingPoint's Zero Day Initiative as HT4435 as confirmed advisory (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at support.apple.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2010-3791. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Upgrading to version 10.6.0 eliminates this vulnerability. Furthermore it is possible to detect and prevent this kind of attack with TippingPoint and the filter 10618.
