The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a path traversal vulnerability. The CWE definition for the vulnerability is CWE-22. The product uses external input to construct a pathname that is intended to identify a file or directory that is located underneath a restricted parent directory, but the product does not properly neutralize special elements within the pathname that can cause the pathname to resolve to a location that is outside of the restricted directory. Directory traversal vulnerability in the web-based administration interface on the Camtron CMNC-200 Full HD IP Camera and TecVoz CMNC-200 Megapixel IP Camera with firmware 1.102A-008 allows remote attackers to read arbitrary files via a .. (dot dot) in the URI.

The weakness was presented 11/12/2010 by Trustwave's SpiderLabs with Trustwave's SpiderLabs (Website). It is possible to read the advisory at trustwave.com. This vulnerability is known as CVE-2010-4231 since 11/11/2010. The exploitation appears to be easy. The attack can be launched remotely. The exploitation doesn't need any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a public exploit is available. The attack technique deployed by this issue is T1006 according to MITRE ATT&CK.

A public exploit has been developed by Trustwave's SpiderLabs and been published immediately after the advisory. It is possible to download the exploit at securityfocus.com. It is declared as proof-of-concept.
