MIT Kerberos up to 5-1.8.3 Key Distribution Center cryptographic issue

CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

Detailsinfo

A vulnerability was found in MIT Kerberos (Network Authentication Software). It has been classified as problematic. Affected is an unknown part of the component Key Distribution Center. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cryptographic issue vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-310. This is going to have an impact on integrity. CVE summarizes:

MIT Kerberos 5 (aka krb5) 1.3.x, 1.4.x, 1.5.x, 1.6.x, 1.7.x, and 1.8.x through 1.8.3 does not properly determine the acceptability of checksums, which might allow remote attackers to modify user-visible prompt text, modify a response to a Key Distribution Center (KDC), or forge a KRB-SAFE message via certain checksums that (1) are unkeyed or (2) use RC4 keys.

The weakness was published 11/30/2010 by Sam Hartman (Website). The advisory is available at vupen.com. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2010-1323 since 04/08/2010. The exploitability is told to be difficult. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available. This vulnerability is assigned to T1600 by the MITRE ATT&CK project.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 68152 (Oracle Linux 4 / 5 : krb5 (ELSA-2010-0926)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Oracle Linux Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 216007 (VMWare ESXi 4.1.0 Patch Release ESXi410-201104001 Missing (KB1035111)).
