CVSS Meta Temp Score
CVSS is a standardized scoring system to determine possibilities of attacks. The Temp Score considers temporal factors like disclosure, exploit and countermeasures. The unique Meta Score calculates the average score of different sources to provide a normalized scoring system.
Current Exploit Price (≈)
Our analysts are monitoring exploit markets and are in contact with vulnerability brokers. The range indicates the observed or calculated exploit price to be seen on exploit markets. A good indicator to understand the monetary effort required for and the popularity of an attack.
CTI Interest Score
Our Cyber Threat Intelligence team is monitoring different web sites, mailing lists, exploit markets and social media networks. The CTI Interest Score identifies the interest of attackers and the security community for this specific vulnerability in real-time. A high score indicates an elevated risk to be targeted for this vulnerability.

The manipulation as part of a File leads to a numeric error vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-189. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:

Multiple integer overflows in tiff2pdf in libtiff before 4.0.2 allow remote attackers to cause a denial of service (application crash) or possibly execute arbitrary code via a crafted tiff image, which triggers a heap-based buffer overflow.

The weakness was presented 06/15/2012 with Red Hat as v4.0.2 as not defined changelog entry (Website). The advisory is shared for download at remotesensing.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2012-2113 since 04/04/2012. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The exploitation doesn't require any form of authentication. Technical details are unknown but a private exploit is available.

It is declared as proof-of-concept. The vulnerability was handled as a non-public zero-day exploit for at least 70 days. During that time the estimated underground price was around $0-$5k. The vulnerability scanner Nessus provides a plugin with the ID 69596 (Amazon Linux AMI : libtiff (ALAS-2012-106)), which helps to determine the existence of the flaw in a target environment. It is assigned to the family Amazon Linux Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 350641 (Amazon Linux Security Advisory for libtiff: ALAS-2012-106).

Upgrading to version 4.0.2 eliminates this vulnerability. A possible mitigation has been published 4 months after the disclosure of the vulnerability.

The vulnerability is also documented in the databases at X-Force (76411), Tenable (69596), SecurityFocus (BID 54076†), OSVDB (83042†) and Secunia (SA49493†). See VDB-5639 for similar entry. VulDB is the best source for vulnerability data and more expert information about this specific topic.
