Details
A vulnerability, which was classified as critical, was found in Michael Dehaan Cobbler up to 0.3.8. Affected is an unknown functionality. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a code injection vulnerability. CWE is classifying the issue as CWE-94. The product constructs all or part of a code segment using externally-influenced input from an upstream component, but it does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes special elements that could modify the syntax or behavior of the intended code segment. This is going to have an impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. CVE summarizes:
template_api.py in Cobbler before 2.0.7, as used in Red Hat Network Satellite Server and other products, does not disable the ability of the Cheetah template engine to execute Python statements contained in templates, which allows remote authenticated administrators to execute arbitrary code via a crafted kickstart template file, a different vulnerability than CVE-2008-6954.
The weakness was released 12/09/2010 by Jan Lieskovsky (Website). The advisory is available at people.fedoraproject.org. This vulnerability is traded as CVE-2010-2235. It is possible to launch the attack remotely. The successful exploitation needs a authentication. The technical details are unknown and an exploit is not available.
