A vulnerability was found in Exim up to 4.70 (Mail Server Software). It has been classified as critical. This affects an unknown code block of the component Configuration File. Exim 4.72 and earlier allows local users to gain privileges by leveraging the ability of the exim user account to specify an alternate configuration file with a directive that contains arbitrary commands, as demonstrated by the spool_directory directive.
The bug was discovered 12/11/2010. The weakness was published 12/14/2010 as confirmed advisory (CERT.org). The advisory is shared at kb.cert.org.
