A vulnerability was found in Git up to 1.4.2.2 (Versioning Software) and classified as problematic. Affected by this issue is some unknown processing of the file index.php. The manipulation with an unknown input leads to a cross site scripting vulnerability. Using CWE to declare the problem leads to CWE-79. The product does not neutralize or incorrectly neutralizes user-controllable input before it is placed in output that is used as a web page that is served to other users. Impacted is integrity. Cross-site scripting (XSS) vulnerability in Gitweb 1.7.3.3 and earlier allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary web script or HTML via the (1) f and (2) fp parameters.
The weakness was released 12/15/2010 (Website). The advisory is shared for download at vupen.com. This vulnerability is handled as CVE-2010-3906 since 10/12/2010. The attack may be launched remotely. No form of authentication is required for exploitation. Successful exploitation requires user interaction by the victim. Technical details as well as a public exploit are known. By approaching the search of inurl:index.php it is possible to find vulnerable targets with Google Hacking. It is assigned to the family Oracle Linux Local Security Checks. The commercial vulnerability scanner Qualys is able to test this issue with plugin 165186 (SUSE Security Update for Multiple Packages (SUSE-SR:2011:004)).
